Homemade Healthier Lunchables

My son LOVES lunchables, but they can be super costly and laden with salt.  He isn’t a huge sandwich person and at least I can get him to eat well with a lunchable.  Now I jazz it up and make it my own creation.  I use small snack bags to house the componants and put them in a wide tupperware container like a neat little lunch package.  Some use reusable cupcake rubber thingies to compartmentalize, but I can buy a box of snack bags at the Dollar Tree for $1 and I get 25 of them.  So I’d rather that option.

I bought the following for “Lunchable” lunches

  • Deli Ham Low Sodium
  • Deli Turkey Salami
  • Pepperoni
  • Blocks of Sharp Chedder and Colby Jack
  • Ritz Crackers
  • Cucumbers n Chive Cream Cheese
  • Baby Carrots
  • Celery and Ranch
  • Fresh Fruits
  • String Cheese
  • Hard Boiled Eggs

He also has a small thermos that I fill with water and include a lemon wedge or lime wedge with a “pinch” of sugar.  Healthier than juices or drinks and keeps him hydrated.

With lunches on the rise as far as price (almost $4/day) and for the money, you really are never going to get “healthy” lunches.  They skimp, cut corners, buy less than desireable product and I don’t want my kid eating it.
